Sponsored missions

Participation in Sponsored Missions

Ubifrance/DGCIS sponsored missions allow members of competitiveness clusters to go and meet businesses and research laboratories from all around the world in optimum surroundings, to encourage all kinds of technological partnerships (technology transfer, R&D, collaborative projects, etc.) on the fringes of a major event.

What is a competitiveness cluster sponsored mission ?

Each year the DGCIS (General directorate for competitiveness, industry and services) established a programme of international sponsored missions in collaboration with competitiveness clusters and Ubifrance.

Sponsored missions usually piggyback an international event such as a trade show. In this way, participants can benefit from an area for their meeting and subsidised rates for exhibiting in the French pavilion.

Ubifrance looks after arrangements and logistics and sets up a programme of customised meetings in close cooperation with participating companies. This full support arrangement includes monitoring over two years of the results for companies.

Sponsored missions must meet three criteria :

  • Meet the needs of SMEs, mid-size and international companies for technological partnerships. Delegations must include a high proportion of SMEs and mid-size companies while benefiting from the presence of major groups and laboratories.
  • Give rise to inter-cluster coordination (within or between sectors) for each mission proposed by competitiveness clusters. Promoting discussions between those involved in clusters, the aim is also to strengthen visibility to foreign clusters. Finally, it aims at enabling delegations to achieve a critical size in the numbers involved (major companies, SMEs, mid-size companies and research laboratories).
  • Assist competitiveness clusters in implementing the strategic objectives contained in their road maps.

The cost

The cost of missions varies with the destination, the cost of the show, whether or not a stand is taken, the number of people in the delegation and whether or not the delegation uses its own transport.

In all cases, DGCIS and Ubifrance subsidies are allocated.

For example : for the K-2013 mission to Düsseldorf, the cost for a participant travelling by plane (Ubifrance preferential pricing) was €3,450 plus VAT, with a €1,500 subsidy possible, i.e. an actual cost of €1,950 for five days, with three days spent at the show. Hotels, travel between visits, entrance to the show and scheduled meals were included.

To join an Elastopole mission

Elastopole has developed the main components of its international programme defined in its strategic road map within the context of the Mécafuture network which unites eight French materials and mechanical industry clusters.

In our Elastomag Spécial International 2014 number you can find all the Sponsored Missions and Shows of interest identified by Elastopole, and indicate your interest.

For 2014, Elastopole has examined the possibility of participating in the following shows :

  • Hannover Fair (mechanical : materials and processes), from 7 to 10 April, Hannover - Germany. Contact : Bruno Martin
  • MD&M MidWest show (design and manufacture of medical equipment, implantable medical devices), October 2014, USA. Contact : Antoine Hubault
  • FEIPLAR show (composites, polyurethanes and plastics), 9 to 14 November 2014, Saõ Paulo - Brazil. Contact : Natacha Olivier

Unlike the Hannover Fair, The MD&M (USA) and FEIPLAR (BRAZIL) shows have been accepted by Ubifrance and the DGCIS as Mécafuture cluster sponsored missions.

Elastopole has already helped several SMEs to take part in sponsored missions :
