The COST programme (European cooperation in science and technology) is an inter-governmental organisation which today brings together 36 member states, all of them European. It is a single instrument for revealing new ideas by networking researchers, from very fundamental scientists through to developers close to the market.
Eureka is an inter-governmental initiative for the purpose of promoting cooperation in R&D between European companies, associated case by case with research institutes. Eureka enables SMEs to obtain accreditation and access funding for their collaborative research, development and innovation (RDI) project.
The Eurostars programme was developed by Eureka and the European Commission. It is intended to provide support for SMEs with a high level of research and innovation (where more than 10% of turnover is invested in R&D), for projects with a minimum of two SMEs in two countries, for 24 to 36 months, with a budget of between 1.5 and 2.5 million euros.
COSME is an instrument specific to SMEs which aims to stimulate their ability to innovate. The R&D and innovation funding instrument for SMEs involved in innovation where the economic results will be significant at an economic level.
Other funding possibilities exist under ERDF (European Regional Development fund) structural funds implemented in the regions.
